SLEEP A TO ZZZZs. Six tips for your most restful night's sleep, created in collaboration with our resident sleep expert, Dr. Grandner PhD. 1. Be consistent with your nighttime routine: Set an alarm each night for the same time to signal it's time to wind down—ideally 20-45 minutes before bed. 2. Find a comfortably cool temperature: Women tend to run cold, but you don’t want your sleep space to be too warm. Turn down the temp 2-7 degrees from where it was during the day. 3. Block out the noise: A pair of ear plugs can be life changing, as they insulate you from surrounding sounds. 4. Set the mood: Be mindful of bright lights in the evening – including phone screens. Soft candlelight can help increase melatonin and prime you for sleep. 5. Be intentional about your nighttime routine: Change into soft, comfy sleepwear as part of your nighttime routine to give your body a relaxing sensation and a signal that it’s time to rest. 6. Calm the mind: Engage in relaxation exercises that focus on calming the mind and body such as deep breathing, meditating or journaling.
