So I have last year's version, which is much more jogger than the new version, and I'm still not sure which pair I like better. For reference, I'm a 4R in last years version, sometimes a 4-6 in Athletas stuff, sometimes a petite but typically a regular length. Last year's version 4P was too short in... the leg for me. I got a 4R in this year's version, still debating if I should've gotten a Petite or not, its a bit of a slimmer fit than shown on the model and the waist is slightly loose so I bet I could still size down once more to a 2 for a more fitted fit if I so desired. Last year's version had a thicker-material waistband with regular tie, full elastic around the hems, and a normal set of 4 normal-sized (i.e. not typical "women pants sized") pockets. New version has a thinner material on the waistband, elastic on only the back half of the pant hem, slightly higher rise (Athleta, srsly, can you stop raising the waist band on all of your pants unless you plan to make mid rise versions as well? Im too short for such high rises), and an additional thigh pocket for a total of 5 pockets. Extra pockets are good, especially when they fit your phone so it's not in the way when hiking (confirmed a Galaxy S10 fits just fine), but I wish the waistband were the thicker material still. I'm concerned this material might stretch out during the day, especially if I'm on a rock scramble and bent over frequently. The pant legs also don't quite know what to do with themselves since they are looser than last year due to the half-elastic design, so they kind of look like a slim tapered pant vs a jogger, which is ok but they get caught up on my bigger calves which causes wierd bunching at the knees. I'm definitely going to keep them and given them a try, hopefully they change my mind after wearing them a few times.
I'm curvier on the bottom, narrower in the waist. I have a hard time finding pants and swear by the original trekkie north jogger design (size 2 regular) that are a slimming versatile staple with an adjustable waist (so it still fits when the material stretches out). I tried this new version which i...s more like a flat front peg leg trouser than tapered leg jogger and while it is tts it looked frumpy on me. The ankles seem a bit shorter, are not as tapered and the front pockets have crude, prominent zippers that run longer down the front, drawing attention to the hips (not good if you have wider hips). The old version had pockets with a more subtle zipper design that were less obtrusive, making your legs look longer. The zipped front pockets and extra cargo pocket on the leg might have looked cooler if better designed (ie: Belstaff biker pants) but as is, I'm feeling utilitarian middle-aged Rick Steve's tourist vibes (ie: cash in the cargo pocket to avoid pick pocketers, enough room in the front pocket for a map, no need to change pants from sightseeing to buffet dinner). It's a fine if practicality is your priority. And maybe there's room for two styles of Trekkie pants. But I'd like to keep the original Trekkie North jogger -- while casual, it's more stylish if you are a fan of relaxed minimalist athleisure (eg: James Perse, Stella McCartney Adidas collab etc).

One of my absolute favorite pants to wear. So comfortable and versatile. Love the pull on aspect and washability. Good in most weather/temps. So comfortable that I had to get a second pair.

My favorite pants ever. I have many pairs. Wash and dry easily—dry on a rack overnight. Take up very little room in my suitcase. I wear them year round. They act as windbreakers in winter and are cool in summer. These pants travel around the world with me. And the pockets are deep.
