I am a size 8-9 shoe.and I still order the S/M, but that's because I can feel every wrinkle in my socks! So, I prefer my socks tighter, so no loose material can get bunched up.

everyday cotton crew socks are my favorite athleta socks. I wear them under jeans, with shorts and tights (in cool temps). Love the many colors. My feet love the high cotton content of these socks.
