It is definitely smaller than the normal sizing. I tried sizing up two sizes as some people have adjusted, but then you lose the shape of the shorts. They were Just snug at the waist, but not pinching, after one wash and first wear it loosened up. You can tell the fabric is giving to trust the proce...ss. I have a slightly more athletic shape, fuller bottom. I got black so it could be easily dressed up for evening, but overall I'm really impressed , Will definitely be part of my regular rotation in the summer

Ok, so everything I buy at Athleta is a size 12. Everything always fits to a tee. Imagine my horror when I pulled these out of their package, and COULD NOT EVEN GET THEM ZIPPED UP. I was horrified. Double checked the size to make sure they were a size 12. They were. Got so freaked out that I pulled ...out last year's Brooklyn shorts to make sure I didn't unknowingly gain 10 lbs. They still fit perfectly. So thank God for that. But here's the thing…Athleta, why would you even make a pair of shorts so "off" in the sizing when you really seemed to have the whole thing down to a science? Trying to keep us on our toes? No thanks. These were promptly returned. Interesting factoid, the woman who did my return in store totally validated my experience. She had to go up 2 sizes to get a proper fit. I know people say that the size doesn't matter, it's all about the fit … but show me a woman who is willing to size up that much. The mental head game just isn't worth it.

Beyond impressed! The length, the fit, the comfort- 10/10! I wasn't looking for them in store so when I saw them I was delighted and surprised. I bought in the green and the white to wear in warmer months with cute blouses! I do think they run a bit on the smaller side. I'm a true 0/25 in most brands and I sized up to a 2. The stretch in the shorts are almost compression so sizing up gives me a bit more room.

These are so comfortable. I did a ton of walking, some dancing and never had to worry that I was flashing anyone. They didn't have a waist gap even though I decided to get the larger of the 2 sizes I tried. The others fit but I wanted a little more room because we planned to go hiking. Usually I can't size up without a big gap.

I am not even joking, I came in the store just to browse and I ended up buying these in every single color they had in stock. They are the MOST FLATTERING shorts I have encountered in 3-5 years at least. They also fit unbelievably comfortably. Knowing it's Athleta, it's not surprising that the material is a lightweight, stretchy fabric that feels great. But to the average person who sees you and doesn't know it's Athleta, the fabric doesn't look athletic at all. It looks more like a cotton-canvas blend. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it before. I recommend going up one size from your normal if you have much of a booty—it's definitely not necessary, but I tried on both sizes and liked the slightly larger one better for the shorts. My normal size worked perfectly for the pants version of these, which I also bought in almost every single color. I can also confirm that these do not shrink OR wrinkle—at least not meaningfully—on cold water in the wash and low/medium heat in the dryer.
