Best. shorts I bought in 20 years. I hate my thighs. I can't stand high rise shorts. I avoid side pockets because they add visual heft. I don't buy shorts because they always leave me feeling self conscious and uncomfortable. But these shorts are perfect everywhere, top to bottom. Incredible fit, fe...el, style. Flattering and great for errands, hiking, lunch, day or night with heels or flats or flip flops or sneakers. Spectacular all around, just wish they had some more color options in warm taupe, linen, chocolate, raisin or dark blue or teal. I sized up and it covers well and is both modest and flattering. Buy them all.

Ok, so everything I buy at Athleta is a size 12. Everything always fits to a tee. Imagine my horror when I pulled these out of their package, and COULD NOT EVEN GET THEM ZIPPED UP. I was horrified. Double checked the size to make sure they were a size 12. They were. Got so freaked out that I pulled ...out last year's Brooklyn shorts to make sure I didn't unknowingly gain 10 lbs. They still fit perfectly. So thank God for that. But here's the thing…Athleta, why would you even make a pair of shorts so "off" in the sizing when you really seemed to have the whole thing down to a science? Trying to keep us on our toes? No thanks. These were promptly returned. Interesting factoid, the woman who did my return in store totally validated my experience. She had to go up 2 sizes to get a proper fit. I know people say that the size doesn't matter, it's all about the fit … but show me a woman who is willing to size up that much. The mental head game just isn't worth it.

I bought these shorts because I needed something comfortable but not sloppy looking. They fit well and look great. I am taking a star off because the care instructions online do not match the tag in the shorts. Online it says that they can be machine dried. The tag says line dry. I am someone who runs every morning and walks every evening (in Florida heat). I generate a lot of laundry and just don't have the time, mental energy or flat spaces to line dry pieces. I also question the quality of items that can't survive the dryer on low heat.

These may be my favorite shorts of the summer. They feel great, length is good, and you can pair them with a button down or a t-shirt -very versatile! I bought 2 colors and can't wait to wear them. I'm 5'3", 117lbs and usually wear a petite small or 0 in Athleta bottoms. Size 2 in these shorts is perfect for me. I may "need" them in the barrel pant too!
