The waist of a size 14 fit for us, but the shorts were way to short and kept riding up, so we tried size 16, but the waist of that one kept falling down, and when tightened it only wrinkled up. Maybe for someone with a larger waist/hip size, but definitely not us.

These shorts are great. Lightweight and soft, but also durable. I bought two pairs for my daughter (light blue and navy). She's 12 (5' and maybe 100 lbs) and wears an XL (14-16). Highly recommend for either sports or to wear casually.
