I bought this trench several months ago and recently wore it to Italy for a two-week romp from Florence to Bolzano and everywhere in-between. Until now, my classic black London Fog has served me at home and abroad, and has the added advantage of a zip-out liner. However, the Stellar Trench is a look...er, with its clean, flattering lines and length suited to every outfit. Unpredictable Italian spring weather had temperatures sinking, soaring, and the skies sprinkling or pouring. No problem, though: I was bringing this trench made of Italian Euroluxe fabric back to the land of its birth. Other reviewers remarked that the fabric isn't water resistant, but I beg to differ: the trench didn't bat an eyelash during a good rain, and I returned home comfortable and dry. The coat air dried afterward in the room, no worse for wear. Everything about the trench is matchless: The comfortable elasticized waist with a self-tie belt guarantees you'll look like the classy person you are in photos, and you'll never lose that belt. Zippered front pockets placed exactly where your hands will be protect your valuables. The vent at the back shoulders is both stylish and functional--cool temperatures in the morning and warm temps in the afternoon are handled with unequaled grace by this pretty coat. Sure, it's expensive. I didn't want to pay so much for my second trench. But I bought it in black, size S (I'm 5'5" and 125-128 lbs), and it has been one of the smartest purchases I've made in recent years. I also traveled with several other Athleta brand items, all of which were 100% wins. Thanks, Athleta, for bringing us attractive, functional clothing that's easy to fall in love with.
I don't want to be critical, but I don't understand the hype about this coat. As some reviewers mentioned here this coat has too much fabric and a thicker layer in front and a very thin layer on the back (inconsistent and not effective for it's purpose). The lapels are nice. The T size is great beca...use of the long sleeves which are hard to find for tall women. The color is like the pics (from model that is outdoors/outside), but I've seen so many more trench coat options from other brands that are undoubtedly nicer looking and of better quality fabric. This coat has a nice design cut, but it still has way too much excess fabric on the front that may be flattering if you're thin but meh if you're not. I'm tall, 5'8", 167 lbs for reference. I'm usually a M/M tall/size 8 in Athleta pants and 10 in BR (for comfort). The M-tall looked big on me. I'm thinking it's just the cut because M-T has worked for all other jackets, nicely. I like clothes to fit loose, but this was not flattering. Is my opinion skewed? Granted, the customer service experience with Athleta was awful (they cared very little that this reg. priced item was shipped w/o protection/arrived dirty and crumbled up and is hand wash only!) and offered no sincere apology or recourse to account for my wasted time and experience. But irrespective of any 15% or 20% discount, which I did not get, I would have still returned because it is not worth at $200+ price point. Maybe I would have felt differently if I had ordered the black one, but given the construction it looks flimsy for any weather and offers no real protection. It has no clasps, no buttons to close in front, only pockets w/zippers, and belt. Perhaps this works for CA weather, but not for NY during transitional seasons like Spring or Fall. It honestly doesn't seem to offer much protection from the elements and would need a sweater which would bulge on the back. It also doesn't look water proof for rain. I can see myself getting drenched in this.Returned.

The material is soft and not stiff. It wears well over office-style work wear. Love that you can't lose the belt. Love the zippered pockets

Ordered a small and had to return for an xs. It does run large. Love the weight of the coat, it feels substantial and looks great!

Fabulous jacket - perfect fit, love the length and style, but the "hand wash" killed it for me. Who hand washes a garment this big? If we can have machine washable cashmere these days, why not a machine washable nylon blend? No thanks to the garment based on the care instructions.

really wanted to love this -- but was surprised that the front fabric is different than the back and it seems odd and like its a mistake. Not sure what the benefit is of having 2 fabrics. I also don't see any mention of this on the product page.

I was looking for a rain coat that looks smart for travel, doesn't look like a traditional raincoats, soft fabric, well priced. Found it all in this coat!

I love everything about this trench! When it's tied at the waist, it makes me look so shapely :) The fabric drapes beautifully and looks very chic. Looking forward to cooler weather so I can finally wear it.

Love this jacket! It is a bit heavier and bulkier than I expected, but will be perfect for the cooler fall weather, as well as wearing over a sweater! The fact that it can be packed and doesn't wrinkle makes it a win win for our travels.

Great length for tall ladies. I'm 6'1" and the tall was wonderful. I'm 155lbs and slim, athletic build. I got the medium tall, which i could've went small, but they didn't have my size. But, the medium will be great for layering. Love coats, so another added to my closet.
